A seating surface crafted from repurposed push brooms

Broom Chair

1998, stainless steel, flagged push brooms

During the creation of this piece, I was deeply influenced by the concepts of Marcel Duchamp's Readymades and Italian Neofunctionalism. My approach often involves taking existing objects or ideas and reimagining them in new ways. This specific design transforms soft, flagged push broom heads by turning them upright and using them as a supportive and cushioned surface for the user to interact with, creating an unexpected and novel experience. This piece was showcased at Neocon in Chicago and the Gallery of Functional Art at Bergamont Station in Santa Monica.
